THE CONVERSATIONAL APPROACH
The fundamental emphasis during our courses is the ability to understand the language and to reply in conversation with confidence AND accuracy. Situational dialogue between the instructor and the other students makes this possible.
The common format of each class is to introduce new material (verbs, verb tenses, phrases, vocabulary, idioms), highlighting their usage and practicality. Then the material is used situationally and even personally to apply to our daily lives (i.e. ¿Dónde trabaja su esposo?/Where does your husband work?)
After much repetition and situational practice, the new language gradually becomes a part of you. It is instinctual rather than theoretical. Whenever necessary, additional explanation and specific practice are emphasized to “fill in the gaps” of our understanding.
General vocabulary is strongly emphasized and repeatedly used. When necessary, technical and specific-to-industry vocabulary is covered for the medical, law, petroleum and engineering fields, as well as many others.
Despite the inherent challenges of learning a language, our aim is to make a course effective and enjoyable. Whereas in high school and college courses there is an overemphasis on conjugations and Spanish history, we do our best to enable the student to practically incorporate the new language into his or her everyday life. Our friendly instructors will remain attentive to the student’s level of comprehension and particular goals.
